Coursework Assignment

The following includes the details that you will need to undertake and complete the coursework assignment for this module. You should note that while your assignment will be marked out of 100, it is worth 30 percent of your final mark. The remaining 70 percent will be from your exam.

Task:

Please select one and only one of the following questions to write an essay on:

How can a broader conceptualisation of accounts, accounting and accountability (the 3As), and the corresponding values involved, provide further understanding in relation to the public sector?

Expectations:

You should write an essay that answers one (only) of the questions above. Your essay should be no longer than 2,000 words, and should submitted in either Word or pdf. format.

Note:

The Business School’s policy is that the word count extends by plus or minus 10%
The word count includes everything that you submit, including references, footnotes, diagrams, charts, tables, etc.

Due date and time:

The provisional deadline for submitting your coursework essay is 12pm (GMT), on Friday 19^th March 2021 (to be confirmed, soon).

Marking Guidance:

Whichever essay topic you choose, both are sufficiently broad for every student to present their own (and refer to others’) arguments. However, as we have always advised, it is important that you answer the question set. There is no ‘right’ or template answer. The examiners will be looking for well-structured, well-written essays that tackle the task set, using cited evidence and/or personal arguments that have solid substance (including references). Clearly, and as would be expected for the module BEAM025, both essay topics require you to offer understandings and knowledge in relation to a contemporary topic area within today’s societies, but importantly you should be looking to deliver your understandings with a keen focus on the 3As and values.

A final note, please avoid plagiarism – your essay will be processed through turn-it-in; and a reminder to you that referencing articles and other evidence is good style (and necessary to do), as are the reasonable use of quotes from others’ works (avoid long quotes).
