1. Project title. DTN Protocols Choices in City Emergencies
2. Statement of the research problem.
With the construction of urban network, it is found that the current network structure/setting cannot meet the requirements of urban residents at any time, especially in emergencies such as fire, blockage, traffic accident, information cannot be effectively and quickly transmitted to relevant units, Such as police stations, hospitals, etc. In this case, a faster and more trustworthy DTN network needs to be established. Although wireless sensor networks have been widely used in numerous applications, including environmental monitoring, road condition monitoring, and traffic monitoring (Akyildiz, Su, Sankarasubramaniam and Cayirci, 2002), there are still difficulties associated with using them.
The current common DTN protocols, such as Epidemic, Maxprop, Prophet, etc., each have advantages and disadvantages. I will learn and compare the performance of some DTN protocols in later projects, and choose a protocol that is more suitable for a city emergency. we study protocol performance because we want to improve communication reliability. reliability is improved if the latency is lower and the delivery ration is higher.
The main purpose of this project is to find the suitable DTN protocol in a specific emergency scenario. To be specific, different routing protocols are suitable for different emergency scenarios, such as fire, hospital, traffic accident, etc. Sharing information is critical and should be implemented as soon as possible in emergency scenarios (Quispe and Galan, 2014). This project compares the simulations and experiments (use The One Simulator) of different protocols in the same scenario, analyses metrics such as delivery rate, number of dropped messages, and delivery probability, and summarizes the applicability of different routing protocols to emergency situations in VDTN networks.
3. Related work.
1)Proposed Performance metrics in emergency scenarios
Average latency represents the need to send and receive network management information as quickly as possible. In mobile ad hoc networks, the packet delay variation, which indicates the difference or delay between a set of selected packets of end-to-end transmission, is used to gauge network stability and convergence (Quispe and Galan, 2014). Therefore, these two metrics are important for emergency scenarios.
2)2 City infrastructures communication construction
In recent years, due to the dramatic increase in network dynamics and complexity, as well as the rapid proliferation of heterogeneous applications. This leads to an increasing need for improved network automation in the infrastructure. (3) Therefore, a stable and reliable network system is what urban residents need.
4. Methodology.
In methodological design, I will use some network simulators (Such as The One Simulator and The Ns2 Simulator) to simulate the city’s network, because the simulator can well reflect the flow of information and the flow of regional nodes in the event of an emergency. These techniques reflect, to a certain extent, the setting of nodes on the real map and the reproduction of emergency scenes. Set up different groups (eg cars, pedestrians, hospitals, etc.).
