Aims and Summary
This module aims to provide preparation for a student to undertake a substantial
the project which will exercise in-depth technical, problem-solving, creative and other skills
required of a professional practitioner including working to appropriate ethical codes of
practice.
Successful completion of the module will require methodical planning, record keeping, and self-management, effective communication, and delivery of the report.
Support and guidance will be provided by a project supervisor who will be the primary point of contact for a student in this module.
Intended Module Learning Outcomes
The intended learning outcomes are that on completion of this module the student should be
able to:
1. Plan and take responsibility for a self-managed project within an appropriate ethical framework and apply for ethics approval.
2. Research and compile information relevant to the specialist subject area in which the project is based, maintaining a suitable log for recording information obtained and progress in the project.
3. Undertake analysis and design work appropriate to the anticipated outcomes of the project4. Communicate the work done through a written report of an appropriate academic standard
Indicative Content
1. In consultation with and to the satisfaction of the project supervisor, students must produce a project proposal stating the project aims and objectives, research questions, research methods, sources of information, a breakdown of activities, and time taken to achieve those objectives, and an ethical practice assessment.
2. The student must search for and compile relevant information from a variety of literature sources. All information gathered and used must be logged and subsequently referenced by the appropriate referencing style.
3. The student must select and use appropriate research methodologies relevant to the nature of the project.
Lectures will be scheduled during the module, at appropriate dates. The lectures will cover topics to support the design of a student project, production of a project proposal, research skills, ethical practice, plagiarism issues, etc.
Assessment:
The assessment is based on a 2,000-word dissertation. The final dissertation should demonstrate appropriate project management techniques and containing information relating to the topic area.
The student must participate in the ethics approval process for the research, consequently, the student must complete and submit an ethics proposal for approval before data collection. The student must ensure a timely fashion that will allow the application to be reviewed by academics, to make changes (if required), and to ultimately gain final approval. Failure to comply with this process may result in a mark of 0 for the project.
Composition of Module Mark: Coursework (100%)
Module pass requirement: At least 40%
Note: Reassessment by resubmission, the second submission mark is capped at 40%
Comments:
The student must confirm that the research is desk-based with all data gathered remotely.
All data collected or gathered need to comply with COVID-19 government guidance and advice
Referencing will need to be amended to APA style (7th edition)

Re-assessment will be by resubmission of the project proposal based on feedback received.
Re-assessment will be within the relevant resit period.
Reassessment will not be automatic but will be at the discretion of the exam board depending on whether your project is deemed recoverable and your second submission mark will be capped at 40%. Any reassessment must have ethical approval.
