Assignment Title: A mini review on MOFs
Module Code: 6CCC0085
Module Title: Advanced topics in Chemistry 2
Semester: Semester 2 2023-24
Submission deadline: 3 pm 19th April 2024
Marks: 33.33% of Module Mark
Word/Page Count: Maximum 2 sides of A4
Assignment Task:
For this coursework you are to write a mini review on metal-organic frameworks.
Mini reviews provide a concise summary of a specific research topic. They put previous
research and findings in context and present current developments in a critical and focused
manner. Their short format allows easy digestion of those topics in the literature so that more
practitioners can benefit from them.
You are required to produce a review on the MOFs of your choice. The review should focus
on the applications of MOFs. For example, you can take a MOF such as UiO-66 and research
on the latest publications produced on the applications of UiO-66. Or you can choose an
application, such as carbon capture, and summarize latest MOF literature on this application.
The maximum length of review should be two sides of A4, but it should not be less than one
side. You are welcome to design your own structure, but the review should have at least an
abstract, introduction and a conclusion.
An acceptable format can be;
Abstract
Introduction
Heading
Heading
Heading
Conclusion
You may choose to do this task as an individual or you can choose to work with ONE other
person (in the module) of your choosing. If you choose to work as a pair, it is on the
understanding that both members contribute equally, and you will both receive the same
mark for the assessment.
Any chemical structures, schemes or mechanisms in your review must be produced yourself
using Chemdraw (or similar chemical drawing software). It highly recommended to use figures
and tables in the review to elaborate data. Figures should not be however copied from the
journal articles, these should be reproduced and cited properly. In fact all the scientific data
presented in the review should be properly cited using a citation software such as EndNote.
The format of citations should be consistent throughout. Plagiarism of data should be avoided
at all costs. Hence, it is important to paraphrase any information you obtain from a research
article. Your targeted audience should be a third-year undergraduate. The review produced
should be able to summarize the latest research done on the chosen topic in a succinct
manner.
Learning outcomes:
To be able to search latest journal articles on a specific topic.
to understand the published scientific data and present the summary in a clear and
brief manner avoiding plagiarism.
Purpose of the assignment:
Review articles are a common secondary source of information. They are written and
published so that a reader can understand scientific concepts and get knowledge on all the
latest research on a specific topic without having to dig out all those research articles. It saves
time and effort on the part of reader. This writing exercise will help you demonstrate and
enhance your scientific understanding and data analysis skills as well as the ability to present
complex scientific concepts in a simple language.

Evaluation Criteria/marking rubric:
The expected structure and content of the assessment is described above. Grades reflect the
degree to which these expectations have been met, in particular with regard to the following
criteria:
‐ The required structure of the assessment has been followed.
‐ Any specific research/outcomes/contributions to the topic from the scientific
literature are included.
‐ Relevant figures/tables are included.
‐ Relevant literature references have been cited where appropriate in a consistent
format.
‐ The layout and presentation of the review is logical and clear.
‐ Any formulas/structures/data values given in the review are correct.
