COURSEWORK BRIEF:
Semester 2- 2023/24
2
Coursework Brief:
This assessment consists of a written paper of 3,500 words. The theme for the paper is “A critical
evaluation of the entrepreneurial and internationalisation process of an enterprise, and how it
overcame specific challenges when entering a new foreign market”
You are expected to critically analyse the internationalisation process of an existing business venture of
your choice. Typically, this company started the business venture as a SME The case study should focus on
analysing at least one specific new foreign market that the company actually attempted to enter. This could be
referred to either a successful or failed experience to enter a particular foreign market. In your critical analysis,
you should address the following key questions by referring to the relevant theoretical frameworks that you
learned during the course:
1. Which factors did the enterprise take into account for the selection of geographical market(s) of
expansion
2. Which modes of expansion were chosen and what were their international strategies to enter the main
geographical markets
3. What problems or challenges did the enterprise encounter and how it has overcome or could have been
done to overcome
4. What are the implications for other small-medium enterprises(SMEs) during their international growth
and lessons learned from the case study
In your critical analysis make sure that you explain the reasons for the venture choices during the
internationalisation process. In doing so, you are expected to support your arguments by providing both factual
and theoretical evidence (i.e. respectively from the chosen case and learned theory from the lectures and your
wider reading).
Any delayed paper will be subject to the standard late submission penalties. This is an individual piece of work.
You are advised to carry out your research independently of other students. Papers that demonstrate cheating
