Assignment brief
Assignment brief
This course unit is assessed by a single 4,000-word assignment.
Your assignment should include the following sections. The number of words for each section is for guidance and is not mandatory; but the total length of your assignment should be within 10% of 4,000 words, not including references or appendices.
1.An introduction explaining and justifying the theme that your group chose to investigate and the individual context in which you personally explored it (500 words)
2.An analytical report of the inquiry that you conducted in your own setting, including a commentary on those aspects that were influenced by collaborative planning and evaluation (2,500 words)
3.A critical reflection on the strengths and limitations of collaborative working, informed by your experience of the project and referring to published literature where appropriate (1,000 words)
You should refer back to the learning materials from the unit that cover much of this, and also your own supplementary and additional reading in this sphere to help with your thinking and writing.
A typical structure for this assignment would be:
iv.A cover page with your student ID (not your name), the course unit number and name, a title that refers to your specific project and the date of submission
v.A contents page, including the word count for the whole assignment
vi.An Introduction providing an overview of, and rationale for, the project (up to 500 words)
vii.The Project Report (up to 2.500 words)
viii. The Reflection on Collaborative Learning (up to 1,000 words)
ix.References
x.Appendices (if applicable)
The word count includes points iii, iv and v above. You are allowed 10% leeway, so you may be penalised if your assignment is longer than 4,400 words. There is no requirement to adhere to the indicative word count of each section.
General guidance on writing and presentation
General guidance on writing and presentation
Please use the first person: ‘I’ and ‘my’. If you use ‘we’ or ‘our’ or ‘us’, it is only when you are writing about your collaborative group.
Do not write about your ‘beliefs’ or ‘opinions’, but about the evidence based on your inquiry and your reading of the literature.
Write in UK and not US English. Switch your default spell checker to UK English and check the spelling before you submit the assignment. The only exception to UK English is if you use a direct quotation from an author who has not written in UK English. The quotation must be in the original English that the author used.
Translations: if you use literatures that are in languages other than English, you need to ensure: (a) that all quotations you use are translated; and (b) in the references list at the end, you put the reference in the original language and translated underneath.
Write in good English. Use the spell and grammar check software to make sure that your work is as accurate as possible. Seek help if needed.
You must write this assignment in narrative (sentences in paragraphs) and please do not use bullet points.
Please follow University guidance, and note that plagiarism or copying someone’s work without referencing a quotation or an idea is not acceptable and is a very serious issue.
Self-plagiarism is where you copy work that you have submitted for another assignment, whether for this or another institution.
Turnitin will identify any work that is plagiarised or self-plagiarised. A range of penalties can be applied, from a mark reduction to a complete Fail.
