FOR THIS RESIT, YOU MUST CHOOSE A DIFFERENT UK INDUSTRY SECTOR AND
ASSOCIATED COMPANIES IN POINT (2) BELOW THAN YOU USED IN YOUR FIRST
SUBMISSION. IF YOU DO NOT, YOU WILL FAIL THIS RESIT.
Write a report for the food industry evaluating policies and performance of one (1) UK
industry sector and named companies from list below. This will be against the two
named core subjects and associated issues of ‘ISO26000 Guidance for Social
Responsibility’ listed below. The report should be written in a formal style including being
word-processed and be a maximum of 4,000 words (excluding titles, content of tables
and figures, reference list, and any appendices). It should be a balanced critique using
academic and practice (grey) evidence.
You should choose one (1) UK industry sector which includes two named companies
from the list:
o Food and beverage: ‘Arla Foods’ and ‘Bakkavor’.
o Food retailing: ‘Aldi’ and ‘Waitrose’.
Access the latest sustainability related reports and company sustainability webpage for
the two named companies from the folder provided.
You should only use the following ‘core subjects’ and associated ‘issues’ from ISO26000
‘Guidance for Social Responsibility’ as evaluation criteria (see the ISO26000 document
for details available for download from ‘British Standards online’ at
https://leeds.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/permalink/44LEE_INST/1ps106r/alma9910045954

o Core subject: Labour practices.
o Core subject: Consumer issues.
Your report will have exactly eight (8) sections with associated strict maximum
word counts:
1. ‘Executive summary’ of no more than 200 words.
2. ‘Introduction’ explaining the purpose and structure of the report of no more than 200
words.
3. An evaluation of your chosen UK industry sector on ‘core subjects’ and associated
‘issues’ from ISO26000 of ‘Labour Practices’ and ‘Consumer Issues’ with reference
to relevant activities of UK industry trade associations and/or collaborations
(including with other stakeholders) involving numerous UK companies from this
industry sector of no more than 1,000 words:
3.1. The most significant issues for that industry sector including global supply
chains.
3.2. Initiatives, programmes, standards, guidelines, charters, polices, agreements
etc. that address these most significant issues involving numerous UK
companies from this industry sector.
4. An evaluation of the latest sustainability report and company sustainability webpage
from named company 1 of no more than 1,000 words, against the most significant
issues for that industry sector on ‘core subjects’ and associated ‘issues’ from
ISO26000 of ‘Labour Practices’ and ‘Consumer Issues’ developed in section 3 using:
4.1. Participation in relevant sector-wide initiatives, programmes, standards,
guidelines, charters, polices, agreements etc including those identified in section
‘3’.
4.2. Company policies and programmes.
4.3. Performance data.
5. An evaluation of the latest sustainability report from named company 2 of no more
than 1,000 words, against the most significant issues for that industry on ‘core
subjects’ and associated ‘issues’ from ISO26000 of ‘Labour Practices’ and
‘Consumer Issues’ developed in section 3 using:
5.1. Participation in relevant sector-wide initiatives, programmes, standards,
guidelines, charters, polices, agreements etc including those identified in section
‘3’.
5.2. Company policies and programmes.
5.3. Performance data.
6. ‘Conclusions and recommendations’ on the future direction of your UK industry
sector and named companies on ‘core subjects’ and associated ‘issues’ from
ISO26000 of ‘Labour Practices’ and ‘Consumer Issues’ of no more than 600 words.
7. ‘References’. The report should use numeric referencing, see
https://library.leeds.ac.uk/info/1402/referencing/51/leeds_numeric_introduction.
8. ‘Appendix’. If needed, this should only include lists and content of relevant standards,
guidelines, charters, polices, agreements etc.
Assessment Criteria
Accurate and up to date information.
Focus on your chosen UK industry sector and named companies.
Focus on the ISO26000 ‘core subjects’ and associated ’issues’ of ‘Labour Practices’ and
‘Consumer Issues’.
The use of critical evaluation in the report with relevant significant issues, standards etc.
and company policies, programmes and performance data.
Clear conclusions and recommendation relevant to your chosen UK sector and named
companies and the ISO26000 ‘core subjects and issues’ listed above.
The breadth and depth and accuracy of referencing. You should make use of
academic/peer-reviewed sources, professional publications and corporate information
and the latest company sustainability reports as well as sustainability webpages.
The overall quality of the report presentation, including clarity and accuracy of language.
Keeping to the above eight sections structure and maximum section word counts. The
content of tables, figures and appendices should be appropriate for the assignment and
should include only supplementary text and data, rather than text and data that is
essential to the argument presented in the main text of the report.
