Assessment Guidelines and Criteria
General guidelines
It is important that you are clear and succinct in your assignments. Focus on
writing clearly and simply. You do not want to leave your audience (or potential
funding provider) wondering.
It is imperative that you conform to academic writing conventions. No sexist,
racist or colloquial language/expression.
Assignments need to be written in the third person perspective. The only
exception here is in the ‘your role and organisation’ section wherein it is
appropriate to use first person perspective.
Assignments need to be written under the headings provided in the table below
and in this order. Ensure that you make the headings clearly recognisable as
headings. For example, you may like to present the headings in bold font.
You must submit polished pieces of work. This means that you must thoroughly
edit your assignments (several times) before submission for assessment. Think
about the quality required for project proposals in practice.
Referencing: You must conform to APA 7th Referencing
Acceptable submission format is Word; PDF or ZIP files are not permitted.
Please use a 12-point font size and double spacing

The first page of both assignments needs to detail the following
information: your name, the course name and code (Human Service Project
Management WELF 2014), the year and study period number and assessment
number (i.e., one or two)

Project Rationale 800 words This should be written in paragraph form.
This section addresses the question: Why is the project needed
Argue the purpose and significance of your project; Make a case
for why your project should get funded. You need to be
persuasive.
Locate your project within the broader context (i.e., this could
mean in terms of background details/geography/topic/issue etc)
and the literature.
You can also draw on your personal experiences or observations
to support your argument.
This section mush include the published academic literature
and/or non-academic sources.
You need to define/describe/discuss key terms and concepts

related to your proposed project topic (e.g., if your proposed
project is about domestic violence, you need to define how
domestic violence is conceptualised in your project etc.)
You can use non-academic sources (government reports,
statistics, social media content, etc) to describe the background of
the proposed project
Your Role and
Organisation
300 words Detail your role and the organisation (including some basic
background information about the organisation, such as its
history, mission, and main service focus) that you are pretending
that you will be based.
Project Scope Project Summary 100 words This should be written in paragraph form.
This should be a succinct overview of what your whole project is
about. (The project summary serves a similar function as an
abstract for a journal article).
Include a brief summary of: who is this project for, what you will
do, where the project will take place, and what outcomes you
expect to result from your activities.
Project Objectives 200 words Present objectives as dot points. One objective = one dot point.
You should have three (3) project objectives.
Be clear here and economical with words.
Each of the objectives needs to be S.M.A.R.T.
Project Approach 200 words This should be written in paragraph form.
What is it about the project’s approach to achieve the objectives
How will the project build on local knowledge or make use of
local resources to deliver the project In other words, how is the
project locally-led or locally-embedded
Project approach refers to the guiding methods used to plan and
deliver a project (such as trauma-informed, strengths-based,
community-led, co-design, etc) which shape how the work is
done and how people are meaningfully involved.

You can use one or two approaches for the proposed project
You need to define your selected approach, supported by
relevant academic literature
Project Collaboration 200 words This should be written in paragraph form.
Outline the partner organisations for this project, including the
following information for each organisation: the name of the

The budget must be comprehensive, including both in-kind contributions, cash
contributions, and direct project costs
Do not forget to show the dollar value for each item.
Do not forget on-costs for staff (but not self-employed contractors or
consultants).

Detail the evaluation methods you will use in the project.
