Assessment Question:
Individual Assessment.
Assessment question: chose a company or organisation that you might be interested in working for
in the future. The company can be based in the UK or overseas. It can be a profit-making company
or a not-for-profit organisation. Would you want to work for this company Why/Why not Conduct
a strategic analysis of the company to answer the question, using tools and techniques from the
course.
Prompt questions to help you write the essay:
What kinds of information and narratives are emerging in your research about the ways in
which your chosen organisation maintains its competitive advantage
Which tools are most/least useful in your analysis
What information is easy to obtain What information is missing or incomplete
What are the attractive and less attractive features of the company/industry
What trade-offs might you be prepared to make to enter this particular job market
This assessment asks you to conduct a comprehensive critical strategic analysis of an industry and
company of your choice. You must use a variety of relevant tools from the course to analyse at
national/international level, industry/market level and company level. As this is a critical essay, you
must also include a discussion of the utility and limitations of the analysis tools and techniques that
you select and the data sources that you use, drawing on relevant reading.
As well as using credible industry sources to make your argument, you are also expected to use a
minimum of ten academic sources either relevant to recent research in your chosen industry or to
provide a critical commentary on the analysis process (for example, to comment on the use and
benefit of various analysis tools).
