Assessment aims:
To demonstrate knowledge and understanding of airline operations through development of a feasible airline business model.
Task Description:
Students are required to produce a proposal for a brand-new airline, in the form of a 5000-word report (+/- 10%), starting with an executive summary.
Justification, through evidence-based critical evaluation, should be given for:
- Business model
- The airline’s main base, destinations and route network design
- Choice of aircraft and acquisition methods
A flight schedule, presented in table form should be included as an Appendix.
Report Format
The report format must contain the following elements:
- A title page with declared word count
- The word count does not include the title page, contents page, lists of figures and tables, the reference list, text within figures or tables, but does include in-text citations
- Contents page
- Lists of figures and tables (if used)
- An executive summary as an introduction, being no more than 300 words long
- A final summary of the proposal of no more than 500 words
- A reference list in proper Harvard format
Assessment Criteria:
- Report format (structured with criteria from above, and appearance) – 10%
- Spelling, grammar, and references from at least three (including two non- internet-based) sources using proper Harvard format – 10%
- Executive summary of no more than 300 words – 15%
- Evidence-based, critical evaluation of available sources to justify choices for:
- Business model
- The airline’s main base and route network (type and destinations)
- Fleet, including (but not limited to) aircraft types, number of aircraft, whether they are purchased or leased, brand new or second hand – 40%
- Evidence of a realistic schedule, relating to the number of aircraft in the fleet presented in a properly formatted table – 25%
