Assessment 2: Report

Write a 2,000 word (+/-5%) report to develop an original, innovative proposal for improving the environmental sustainability practice of a selected social group. You should present this in a way that promotes the proposal in as convincing a way as possible to a professional audience.

The proposal should relate to one or more of the topics covered in the module: green infrastructure, energy, water management or waste management. If it relates to more than one, this should be because your proposal is multi-functional; for example, a green infrastructure proposal may also assist in water management. It is important, however, that your proposal is narrowly focused on one main practice, such as a single renewable energy technology in a particular setting.

You should define the social group that your proposal is intended to target as clearly as possible. This may be, for example, the residents of a particular area, people of a certain age range or cultural background or employees in a certain organisation.

Your report should include the following elements (approximate word counts are suggested for each section).
1. A cover page and table of contents (not included in word count).
2. An executive summary (100).
3. The environmental sustainability problem being addressed and the social group being targeted (500).
4. A policy framework for your proposal. This should refer to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and national and local policy as appropriate (300).
5. The details of your proposal. This may include technical information about the practice, an example of how it has already been carried out to some extent, and suggestions for how it can be implemented (1,000).
6. The intended benefits of the proposal (100).
7. A bibliography of relevant sources (not included in word count).

The report should be written to a professional standard, with attention to:
? Writing style: direct, accessible and persuasive.
? Formatting: smart, clean appearance with a simple font and short, numbered paragraphs.
? Graphics: attractive, illustrative images, charts, maps etc, as appropriate, with headings.

Penalties for late submission
5% of the total marks available for the assessment shall be deducted from the assessment mark for each working day after the submission date, up to a maximum of five working days (e.g. for work marked out of 100, five marks per day will be deducted). However, the mark will not be reduced below the pass mark for the assessment. Work assessed below the pass mark will not be penalised for late submission of up to five days. Work received more than five working days after the submission deadline will receive a mark of zero.
