This assignment will be marked using the formative essay question detailed in the Geography Student Handbook.

The following specific requirements apply (over and above the official Coursework Submission Requirements):

You must visit an archive (or the special collections of a museum or university library) in London that holds a significant collection on empire. You must confirm your choice of an archive with one of the instructors. Write a 500-word essay that includes a brief history of the archive that came to hold the historical materials, a description of the materials relevant to environmental and spatial aspects of empire. Your essay must identify at least 5 potential primary sources (documents, photos, paintings, maps, etc.) to serve as the basis of your summative assessment.

This assignment comprises 100% of the TOTAL MARK for this module.
The WORD LIMIT is 3000 words.
The submission deadline is as indicated on your KEATS module page under the section Assessment and Feedback.
This assignment will be marked using the formative essay question detailed in the Geography Student Handbook.

The following specific requirements apply (over and above the official Coursework Submission Requirements):

Compose a 3,000-word essay on a historical topic (or a topic that connects imperial historical geography with a contemporary issue) concerning the environment and development (broadly speaking). Your essay must draw on at least 3 primary sources and 12 secondary sources. Possible topics might be one of the following: boundary disputes, conservation, trade, global environmental governance, developmental legacies of slavery, imperial irrigation, or resource nationalism.
