1. (a) Discuss in detail the differences between the objectivist
and practice-based perspectives on knowledge with regards to
how they conceptualise the processes of knowledge sharing.

(b) Drawing upon the practice-based perspective of
knowledge, discuss how the features of this perspective
influence the way managers facilitate knowledge sharing in
organisations. Support your answer with examples.

2. Explain why trust can have a critical impact on knowledge
sharing and knowledge transfer. Use examples and relevant
theories to support your answer. [100

3. KITE is an outdoor sport device manufacturer. The company
had good growth over last ten years. However, the growth has
slowed down in the recent two years. After substantive market
research, the company board has formed a new strategy by
which the company has decided to develop a new range of
products for emerging markets. Over the years, the company
has successfully developed substantive in-house knowledge
and expertise in developing sport device. The managing
director and board members are very keen to adopt KM to
sustain their expertise and develop new products in line with
their strategy.
(a) Describe Nonaka’s (1994) four modes of knowledge
conversion as featured in the SECI model. [30 marks]
(b) Discuss how the organisation can apply SECI concepts for
organisational knowledge creation using examples to illustrate
your answer. You should include a critique of the model as
appropriate. [70 marks]

4. (a) What is the difference between organisational unlearning
and organisational forgetting [30 Marks]
(b) Discuss why people may find engaging in the process of
unlearning to be difficult and challenging. Support your answer
with either real or hypothetical examples. [70 Marks]
5. (a) Explain the role of information system technology in
knowledge management. [50 marks]

(b) Information technologies have become prominent in
organisations over the years and resulted in a variety of
systems that aim to support KM. Please name two types of
systems that can be used for KM and explain what they are
and how they can be applied within an organisation. [50
marks]
