You can access these articles by clicking on the hyperlinks next to each article title. You may be prompted to insert your Cardiff University login credentials when clicking on the hyperlinks.

The word limit for your annotated bibliography is 2,500 words (+/- 10%). The word limit excludes references. You must include your assignment word count on the assignment cover sheet. You must type your work in Microsoft Word. Your text must be written in Arial, font 12, should be justified and 1.5 line spaced. The document should be thoroughly revised for accuracy before submission to check for any typos, grammar or spelling mistake.

Any source (books, articles, web, etc.) used to write your annotated bibliography must be appropriately cited in text and referenced in a reference list. References must be written using Cardiff University Harvard style as detailed in the reference guidance uploaded in the folder ‘Assessment & Feedback’ in Learning Central under Course Content.

The deadline for submitting your annotated bibliography is Tuesday, 6th of May 2025, 11am. Annotated bibliographies are to be submitted via the link available on the module webpage on Learning Central. As it may take a few minutes for your submission to be submitted to the system, you must allow yourself sufficient time to complete your submission. You are advised to start the submission process well in advance of the 11:00am deadline to ensure that you leave enough time for your submission to be completed. If you encounter difficulties with submission, please email CARBS-PGHubQueries@cardiff.ac.uk before the deadline expires and they will look to assist you. Please include your student number in any correspondence.

Where do I begin What help is there
To prepare for this assessment, you are encouraged to watch this short tutorial on ‘Reading and critically analysing a journal article’, which can be accessed at the following link: https://xerte.cardiff.ac.uk/play_18649

What is expected from you
You are expected to summarise the articles, describe their features and the authors’ main arguments and conclusions. Furthermore, you should examine the strengths and weaknesses of what is presented and illustrate how the selected literature advances your understanding of the topic and relates to the concepts/themes studied in the module.

What does an annotated bibliography look like
You should organise your annotated bibliography in the following structure:

PART 1. Describe it
This section introduces the source presenting the purpose of the research, the content and the authors’ key arguments. It also identifies the research methods if applicable, and any conclusions made by the authors.

PART 2. Evaluate it
This section evaluates the quality of the source, illustrating its strengths and weaknesses.

PART 3. Link it
This section illustrates how the source relates to the themes/concepts studied in the module and how it contributes to advance your understanding/knowledge of the topic.

How is the annotated bibliography assessed
Marks will be awarded considering your critical evaluation of the revised literature as well as your ability to review and summarise information, relate to the concepts studied, organise information in a coherent and structured manner, and cite and reference correctly.
